Oh Boy! I can’t believe I did it! I completed my first ever Iron Girl Triathlon this past summer. I was contemplating doing for a while and trying to figure out whether I should participate in it or not. My boyfriend didn’t give me much of an excuse when he surprised me with registration! Yes that’s right! He registered me because he knew me oh-so-well. He knew it was something I needed to do and deep down I really wanted to do because he believed in me. I spent months and months training for this event. It wasn’t my first triathlon though. The year before I took part in the Subaru Triathlon Series in Orillia, Ontario.
I love the rush and excitement I feel when I set goals for myself, put my mind to it and accomplish them. Ever since I stopped my competitive swimming career when I turned 18, I felt like I was missing something. I was missing the challenge and feeling of accomplishment sport brought to my life. I love working out and exercising and being in the gym. It gives me the best rush of endorphin’s, but when it comes to summer time, all I want to do is get out of the gym and take my training to the outdoors. Running on roads, Biking on trails, and swimming in lakes, there is literally nothing better.
The aspect of the Iron Girl which motivated me and inspired me the most was that it was an all female event. The purpose was to raise money for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. Its an event to raise awareness, get people active, and empower women to achieve greatness. Anyone can sign up for this event. It welcomes all ages and fitness levels.
If I can do it, you can do it. Your goal may not be to complete a triathalon, it can be anything. Taking on challenges to improve yourself and accomplish goals is one of the greatest feelings in the world. Don’t believe me? Try it! I promise you wont regret it 🙂
