There is nothing that I love more than a classy feminine pleated skirt to kick off the spring season. Now make that skirt a polka dotted one and we have ourselves a bonus! Marc Jacobs said it, too: “There is never a wrong time for a polka dot”. And how can you blame him? Polka dots are a timeless classic that we always enjoy seeing. Besides florals and pastels, polka dots are one of my favourite prints to wear in the spring and summer time! Polka dots are very on trend this year of Spring 2018 and we are definitely seeing it a lot throughout our local stores and designers, and runways. Polka dots remind me of two vivid times. Firstly, as a child, mini mouse was the icon for her red polka dot dress. When I was younger I would always associate polka dots with mini mouse! Granted, mini mouse always had on the cutest little outfits, nevertheless, I couldn’t walk by a garment in the department store without yelling at my mom “hey its like mini mouse”! Secondly, polka dots always seem to remind me of the style in the 50s. Now, I know what your thinking, I wasn’t born in the 50s but my type icons Audrey Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe were! If I could go back in time and relive a fashion period it would definitely be the 50s. Fashion back then was so timeless and each garment was made very elegantly.
In this outfit that I have styled today, I was going for a casual, meets trendy businesswoman. The pop of colour in the bag is such a beautiful statement piece for the spring and summertime. I love adding different pops of colour to my outfits to make them more fun and playful. The bow kitten heels and the white button up give this look a little more serious business look which makes this look a little more appropriate to wear to the office, while still being trendy. Even though there may be a lot of different elements being pulled together in this look, I think they are tastefully put together. The coral colour of the handbag really compliments the navy blue and white polka dot skirt. Having two statement pieces in an outfit, mixed with basics, allows the bold colours and patterns to compliment each other and balance the outfit out equally without being overbearing.
