One of my favourite eras of women’s fashion was the 1920s. From the Mary Jane heels, the beaded headbands to the ‘flapper girl’ evening dresses, everything just seemed so elegant and fabulous. I have recently been hooked on the Netflix series “Cable Girls” where my recent obsession over 1920s fashion has resurfaced. Between the feminine style of the dresses to the glamorous hairstyles, everything about the 1920s flapper girl has me hooked. A lot of the dresses either had fringe or sequins and were knee-length that swayed back and forth while dancing to the popular jazz music.
1920s flapper girl dresses came in all different kinds of colours and shapes. A very common dress that was seen worn were loose silk dresses with a thin belt around the waist. There would usually also be some delicate beading and embroidery added as well.
When I think of a 1920s flapper girl, I always think of sequence and fringe. I wanted to create a modern-day look while incorporating someone of the 1920s spunk. One of my favourite parts of this look that I have recreated here is the sequence headpiece. It is just so iconic of the era and how woman accessorized themselves. When I found this fringe dress I just fell in love with the cut, shape, and fabric. Like I said I have been obsessed with the new series on Netflix. It has made me want to go back in time and wear all of the beautiful dresses and party like it was 1926!
