If you ask around for the top fashion trends for fall, I doubt pastels would be one of the most popular answers. Fall is known to have darker and moody tones like forest green, maroon, brown, and black. While it is rare for me to wear black, I also don’t have many dark coloured items in my wardrobe. What can I say, I love bright and fun coloured outfits. Wearing pastels in the fall is essential in my wardrobe.
I believe the phenomenon of not wearing light colours in the fall stems from the notion of not being able to wear white after labour day. Every year everyone packs away their colourful and lightweight clothes for the season. Chunky knits and dark wool sweaters start to come out full force in the fall and winter. I don’t know about you, but I don’t care what time of the year it is, I will always wear an outfit that is fun while still being weather appropriate. Julia Engel does a great job in expressing the same concern in her recent post on wearing white in the fall. You can also see from my post last year that I love to gravitate towards lighter colours such as white’s and pink’s throughout the year.
Recently, I have been obsessing over berets and matching my entire outfit and colour scheme to adhere with my beret. As you can also see from my last post here, I don’t think this trend is going to fade for me anytime soon. Plaid is also a colour that I have been loving for fall recently. I found this adorable dress from Zara and immediately fell in love with it. I love the A-Line detailing and the big button straps over the shoulders.
In keeping with the colour palette, I love matching different shades of blue and yellow together so I decided to finish this outfit off by matching it with my sky blue coat. For the accessories, I decided to keep them neutral. The contrast between the blue and yellow along with the plaid pattern of the dress was enough to give this look the ‘wow’ factor it needed.
